More than 50 million people are at risk for malaria (68% of the population)
Malaria is the first and the leading cause of death
Estimated Number people living in malaria areas: 50 million
Estimated number malaria cases per year: 9 million
• Number of extra cases in an epidemic year: 6 million • Number of people dying in a 9-month malaria epidemic (e.g. 2003): 114,000
• Estimated number of lives saved annually if all malaria control interventions fully implemented (Child survival strategy, 2005): 70,400

Implement Early Prevention and Education to Reduce Childhood Mortality Rates by decreasing Malaria cases in Ethiopia

6. Intervention and Evaluation
Target population: Pregnant women or women with children <5 years old
Program goal: To reduce childhood mortality by 10% by the end of the first year of the program
Aim 1: Reduce mortality rate due to malaria by 10% by the end of the first year of the program
Aim 2: To increase the use of proper nets in intended population by 50% by the end of year 1.
Aim 2: Provide education/resources at least 50 individuals of target population about proper utilization of mosquito nets
Aim 3: Provide additionally resources (community assets) to intervention participants through this intervention by the end of the first year of the program
