4 We are a School-wide Title I School
What is Title I? A federal program committed to closing the achievement gap between low-income and other students. The program provides financial assistance to schools to meet the needs of educationally at-risk students. How are Title I Schools identified? A school must have 40% or more of its students to qualify for free or reduced lunches.

How does our school spend Title I funds? Approximately 96% pays for personnel 2 Support Staff 1Computer lab 1 Grade 5 Teacher Approximately 3% Instructional Resources Reading Counts Reflex Math IXL Language Write Score 1% Parent Involvement

6 How does Title I help my child?
Provides assistance beyond the regular ed. classroom Instructional activities Technology Purchase- 163 Chrome books 60 I-Pads 60 netbooks 4 Mac Books 25 Leapsters 3 Mimio Boards Books and manipulatives for classrooms

7 What is Our School’s Designation Status?
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of requires parents/guardians who have children attending a Title I school to be notified of how well their school is preparing students for college and/or a career, as well as the school’s designation under Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver. Under the 2015 renewal of Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver, certain Title I schools continue to be designated as Reward, Priority, or Focus Schools. of our students.  

8 What is Our School’s Designation Status?
I am very proud to tell you that Atkinson has been given the designation of a High Progress Reward School meaning we were one of the top 10% of the Title I schools in the state of Georgia to demonstrate the most gains on the first administration of the Milestones assessment. Our goal is to continue to provide the best education to the best of our ability all students.

11 What curriculum does our school use?
Georgia Standards of Excellence What tests will my child take this year? K-3 Benchmarks Fall and Spring K-5 Benchmarks to progress monitor 3-5 GMAS Georgia Milestone Assessment System These tests measure how well your child has mastered the content at his/her level. All students are expected to make progress.

13 What is the School’s Parent Involvement Policy?
Describes how Atkinson Elementary will provide opportunities to improve parent engagement to support student learning. We value the contributions and involvement of parents in order to share an equal partnership for the common goal of improving student. Open door policy Feedback always welcome

14 What is a School-Parent Compact?
An agreement that parents, students and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all our students reach grade-level standards. Will be sent home within a couple of weeks Please sign and return to your child’s homeroom teacher.

15 What is a Parent’s Right to Know?
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of requires school districts that receive federal Title I funding to notify parents of their right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers and paraprofessionals who instruct their child. As a recipient of these funds, the human resources department will provide you with this information in a timely manner upon request.

20 Volunteer Policy You make valuable contributions to our school!
Work within guidelines established by supervisor You must sign in on the volunteer log. You must follow all school rules, safety rules and confidentiality requirements. You must sign an agreement of understanding. You are a mandated reporter! Please notify the principal if you suspect child abuse. Our first training will be on August 11th at 10:00 in the cafeteria.
