16 GEO SPATIAL ANALYSIS GEO SPATIAL ANALYSIS Definition:
3 Questions Associated with Spatial Analysis: GEO SPATIAL ANALYSIS 3 Examples of Spatial Analysis: Geo Spatial Patterns (cluster, dispersion, linear):

17 What is Spatial Analysis?
The study of the earth’s surface through the variations (differences) and connections (similarities) between physical features and humans (or, the use of space on earth by people) We ask ourselves these 3 questions - Do we see a pattern? Explain how is it like _____________? (compare it to something with a similar pattern) Why is what where? Example 1 Visual Patterns to Look for cluster

18 Example 2 - A really good quarterback (like Tom Brady) has a talent in spatial analysis. How so?

19 A quarterback in the middle of a play -
observes the location of their teammates and opponents sees the relationship between both sees a trend happening sees a pattern emerge and moves the ball based on that pattern

20 Example 3 - You and your group will plan and act out an example of spatial analysis – just roll the dice! 1 = Business Deciding Where to Put a New Store 2 = Your First 2 Days of Classes at EVHS 3 = First Responders (Police, EMS, Firefighters) 4 = You just got your driver’s license, now what? 5 = Black Friday Shopping at 5 Stores 6 = Dancing on a Crowded Dance Floor

21 The Geographic Method – 5 A’s
ASK – ask a question ACQUIRE – find the information ARRANGE – organize the information ANALYZE – study the information ANSWER – answer the question

22 Practicing the 5 A’s Step 1 – Ask a question to your group (choose any of the sample questions on the board). Step 2 – Acquire the answers from each group member. Step 3 – Arrange the answers into a chart, graph or map. Step 4 – Analyze the answers. Are there similar answers? Are they all different? Step 5 – Share the Answers to the question with the class. CHOOSE 1: Favorite Store Favorite Restaurant Favorite EV Class
