2 Common Foods… --There diet is mostly based on grains , rooted vegetables, and cabbage. --They aslo commenly eat a Salat Olivier (Russian Salad). That was influenced by a French chief. --They also eat some Italian foods. Such as gelato, sherbet, some pastas and pastries.

4 Mealtime Customs or Patterns
Breakfast between 7:00 and 8:00

5 Lunch Consists of salad, salted meats , or poached fish served with vodka. Lunch is eaten around mid-day.

6 Dinner Small appetizers of vodka also includes Caviar, Soup and Salads, Bread, Fish, and Vegetables. It is eaten from 6-8 PM

7 Unique Foods YUM! Bliny is a traditional Russian dish that is eaten in great amount during Maslyanitsa (the Russian equivalent of Mardi Gras). Bliny's are Russian Pancakes. Sharlotka is Russian Apple Cake. It is usually eaten at the end of the forth meal. Borscht is Russian Beet Soup. This soup is loved by Russians.

During New Years, a folkloric character, will pass out pryaniki, a sweet gingerbread cake that symbolizes hope and luck for the New Year. In Christmas, kutya, a sweet porridge, deviled eggs, and sbiten, a famous Russian drink, are all eaten during Christmas time.

14 A pre-Lenten Russian Mardi Gras known as "maslenitsa" or "pancake week," is one of the oldest holidays celebrating the end of the winter. Russians serve bliny, a Russian pancake similar to a thin crepe, during this celebration. Bliny can be stuffed with meats and fish, and are usually served with caviar. Sometimes bliny are also filed with cheese, jams, sour cream, fruit or even chocolate syrup.
