1 Shopping for personalities:
A fun project to learn the clothing categories of classic, fashion, and fad

2 Classic Fashion Classic fashion includes clothing items that can be worn year after year. It takes decades of popularity for clothing to be considered classic. Usually it is clothing that looks good on every body type and warrants an investment since you can always wear it and look great. Here are some examples of classics: Trench Coat jeans White T-Shirt White button downs Suits

3 Fashion Fashion Clothing that is considered “fashion” has been in style for several years. Often it can be a play on the classics like changing the color or silhouette. Fashion items are great for professional settings that are a bit more relaxed. You should look for several good pieces that are well-made. However, these may not be in style forever so spending a ton of money is not the best choice. You want to update your fashion every year or so. Cropped jackets White button downs: Updated Silhouette Mixing and Matching Skinny jeans Simple Dresses, Big Color

4 Fad Fashion Clothing that is considered a fad may only be in style for a brief period of time. These are usually items that the most trendy people wear and often only fit a particular body type. DO NOT spend lots of money on these fads because they may only be popular for weeks or months, then the next fad will take their place. Here are some famous fads.

5 Your portfolio You are a personal shopper. In order to get customers you need to create a portfolio showing your own style. Fill three slides with clothing you would pick for classic styles, fashion styles and fad styles. This should be reflective of you and your understanding of each type of clothing style. Make sure you show clothes for summer and winter. See the pictures below to help you get started. Fad Classic Fashion

9 Your task You will go shopping for each customer.
You can shop online at stores that would best fit your customer. You need to keep a budget and make sure you are getting everything on your customer’s list. You must create an item description for each piece. An item description includes the name of the piece, where you found it, its price and its fashion category. You should write one to two sentences to show your customer how it fits their needs. Black suit jacket JCrew $250.00 Classic You need this jacket for your interview. It is a classic piece that can be mixed and matched with the other pieces I found.

10 Your first customer: Mara
Mara is getting ready to graduate college. She needs classic clothes for job interviews with banks and fashion clothes for job interviews with non-profit companies. She loves natural fabrics and likes to look feminine. She is on a budget but can spend a bit more than usual because she needs to look good for these interviews. She can spend $700 on three different looks. She really hopes you find things that she can mix and match. She also needs shoes and accessories.

11 Your second customer: Julia
Julia is still in high school. She loves concerts, hiking, and spending time with her friends. She is always out and about and is looking for clothes to show her outgoing personality. She only wants fashion and fad clothing. Everything has to mix and match and she loves accessories. She has a budget of $300 and would like a lot of clothes rather than two or three more expensive pieces.

12 Your third customer: Shaneese
Shaneese is a busy mother of two. She is ready to update her wardrobe for the summer. She will be going to a formal wedding, enjoying a cruise with her husband, attending lunches for the local charity which she volunteers for and must have casual clothes she can do her errands in. She has $1000 to spend and really wants a completely new wardrobe. Make sure you show a variety of pieces. By the way, she loves color!

13 Just for fun: Sammy Sammy is the hard to please daughter of one of your best customers. She has outgrown all her clothes and needs new stuff to start kindergarten. She is very active and sassy. Choose clothes that would be appropriate for this unique little kid and make sure you can “sell” them to her because usually she hates everything. Her mother can spend $500 and would like at least 5 outfits.
