2 Fads vs. Classics A fad is something that is a short lived fashion. Think of some things that are in style right now …

3 Classics A classic style is something that has been in style for several years and will remain in style. Classic styles are generally well made and have simple, straight lines. What do you consider to be a classic style?

6 So How Should you Balance your Wardrobe? Your wardrobe should be composed of some mix and match classic styles. However, you should always include some styles that are the latest fad to keep your wardrobe up to date.

7 So How Do I Know What to Wear When I Go Different Places? Consider these factors: If the occasion is casual, remember that casual does not mean sloppy! 1.Weather 2. What you will be doing 3.The amount of time you will be there

8 So How Do I Know What to Wear to Different Places? Remember that because Florida has such a warm climate, casual dressing is more accepted here than in other places. When dressing formally, look for clothes with dressier fabrics and styles. Make sure that your accessories match your outfit and the occasion.

9 Looking at Line Types There are two ways lines can be created:  Structure or construction of garments  Design of fabric The lines in the design of the fabric is another important way for lines to be created. Structural lines are created through the construction of the garments (ie: seams & pockets).

13 Give It A Try On the next few slides, you will see some different situations followed by a selection of outfits. Choose which outfit is most appropriate. Is the outfit a classic style or a fad? What type of line is in the outfit?

14 Situation #1 Karen’s 4-H Club is going to meet with their city’s Mayor to learn more about their government for her Citizenship 4-H project. Which outfit should she wear?

16 Situation #2 John’s 4-H Club is having an end of the year picnic for the 4 th of July. Which outfit should he wear?

18 Let’s Talk About It Now break up into groups and discuss the answers you came up with. Each group member should say their answer and explain why they picked the outfit. Were there differences in opinions? Did you learn how you could have had a different answer?
