1 KIAMA BOWLING CLUB SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER CLUB CAPTAIN APPOINTED
At our recent AGM, the decision was made to appoint a club captain to help promote the game of bowls in our club. Mick Weir was appointed in this position and he has the following message for our members. ‘The captain's role is primarily to work with the committees to develop bowls and promote the club throughout the zone and NSW. Any ideas members have in these areas please make them known to me. I am currently working on a Kiama Bowls code of conduct which all bowlers will need to adhere to when representing the club. I urge you all to support Adam, the selectors, games committee and the new board in their efforts for our club.’ TRIPLES CHAMPIONSHIP The Men’s Triples competition is up to the semi final stage with some excellent matchups so far. Bill Toulmin’s side of Tim Rossiter, Al Tarbart have had an excellent run defeating Steve Wills and Mick Weir side’s in tight affairs. Last years winners Des Gorham, John Heidtman and Tony Van Zanen reached the last four with big wins over Bill Partridge,Tommy Hodgson and will meet Toulmin’s boys in the semi final. Kevin Pepper’s side of Adam Rodgers, Cameron Baker overcame a six shot deficit with three ends remaining to defeat Murray Sheather, Rod Logan and Neville Norris. They will meet the Rolls brothers skipped by Brad Rossiter in the other semi final. Good luck to all teams involved. Club Challenge 2016 The Club Challenge began recently with three sides competing in the Gold, Silver and Blue divisions. In the Gold’s Geoff McIntyre had a brilliant win against Bomaderry legend Bob King, unfortunately both pairs and triples went down. The defending Silver state champions won with Tony Van Zanen winning his singles and Tommy Hodgson victorious in the triples to take the points for Kiama. The Blue’s were unlucky to lose to Warilla with Bill Partridge winning his sides triples rink. The pairs combination of Cam Baker and Wayne Montefiore came very close to securing the win for Kiama but lost the last couple of ends to just go down. Keep going Kiama, all still in with a chance of qualifying for the finals!
