1 Welcome to Marist Basketball! Dear Future RedHawk, Welcome to Marist Big Red Basketball! This Fall, Marist basketball will host its 7 th Annual 3 on 3 Grammar School Tournament. This tournament, which drew over 150 participants last year, is open to all 5 th through 8 th grade boys. As you prepare for your upcoming season, we hope that you consider joining us for this exciting opportunity. The 3 on 3 tournament will consist of two divisions: a 5 th and 6 th grade division and a 7 th and 8 th grade division. There will be a champion crowned for each division. Each tournament will run with a double elimination format, guaranteeing all teams a minimum of two games. Each participant in the tournament will also receive a Marist t-shirt. This year’s tournament will be held Saturday, October 25 th, 2014 in the Marist main and new gymnasiums. Each team should report to Marist on October 25 th by 2:30p.m., with the first games for the tournament beginning at 3:00p.m. We look forward to sharing this exciting “Marist Basketball Experience” with you. Marist Basketball…A Tradition of Excellence Over the Last Eleven Years… Marist Basketball has averaged 19.8 wins per season, the most of any Catholic High School on the Southside of Chicago. Marist Basketball has won 4 Regional Championships. Marist Basketball has five 20-win seasons, and in 2012, won a school record 26 games, advancing to the sectional championship. The average ACT score for the Basketball Class of 2014 is 24.5. 2 Marist BOYS’ BASKETBALL 7 th Annual 3 on 3 Tournament Tournament Rules The completed forms and total entry are asked to be received by October 22 rd, 2014. We will accept walk-up registrations, however. All games will be played on half court. Games will be played to 15 points win by two with a maximum time of 20 minutes. Standard baskets are worth 1-point and baskets made behind the 3-point line are worth 2 points. Opening possession is determined by the top team of the bracket shooting a free throw. All dead ball situations and after made baskets, the ball must be checked at the top of the key to begin play. There is no make it take it rule - possession changes after each made basket. Change of possession (rebound, turnover) must be taken back beyond the 3-point line. A referee/court monitor will have the final say on all decisions. Teams are allowed to have up to 4 players on a team, having a substitute available.
