You may take classes at the following schools: Carthage College UW-Parkside Gateway Technical College Students may take a class that KUSD does NOT offer, like Japanese

11 GTC, PLTW, AP and YOP Credits Expands Students’ Options
College credit earned through in High School allows students to move into upper-level college courses sooner, pursue a double major, and gain time to study and travel abroad. “As a freshman, I was able to skip general education requirements and head straight into the higher-level classes I wanted to take. Taking college credits in HS literally saved me semesters of time.”—Brent Wiese, University of Iowa

12 My “Cheat Sheet” to help you create your YOP application
*Start with You will find everything you need to complete the Youth Options Program application and turn it in by the October 1 or April 1st deadline. This means that completed forms must be in the hands of the high school counselor before October 1 or April 1st to be considered eligible for the Spring 2018 Youth Options Program. There are no exceptions to this deadline. Questions? Have your student see Mrs. Anderson, the counselor, asap, please. : - ) Forms checklist: _____ KUSD Parent/Student agreement letter (to be signed by both of you) _____ Official High School transcript (to be gotten from the main office) _____ student transportation agreement (on-line) _____ YOP Plan and Report (2pg.document) this includes a list of classes requested (from the on-line course offerings link) – choose a lot as we never know what is available by the time you go to the college to select the class(es) you’d like to take _____College application form (on-line) for UW-P only … If applicable _____ Gateway YOP Cover Sheet …. If applicable

13 “Cheat Sheet” Continued…
Mrs. Anderson recommends the following: (think about this for after high school) If you plan on going to a UW or other public college – take your classes at UW-Parkside If you plan on going to a private college – take your classes at Carthage College If you plan on going to a technical college – take your classes at Gateway Tech. Please Note: All YOP classes count as elective credits only for KUSD. 1 college credit = .25 KUSD elective credit For example if you’re enrolled in a 3 credit class, you will earn .75 KUSD elective credit AND the 3 college credits. : - ) Q -What happens after I hand in the YOP forms to Mrs. Anderson? A- Wait for Carthage, Parkside or Gateway to send you: confirmation of acceptance directions on how to register for your college classes orientation date and time Keep this information at home in a “YOP” Folder
