4 The Overwhelming Job Opportunities in S.T.E.M. Computer Science  Projected number of computing jobs is 1.3 million per year for 2012 thru 2022.  On track to fill only 40% of job openings.  Wages paid are significantly above national average.

5 Fewer Girls and Minorities Took AP Computer Science Exams Fewer Girls and Minorities Took AP Computer Science Exams While the numbers of students taking Advanced Placement computer science exams skyrocketed in 2014, participation for many groups of students remained low, an Education Week analysis shows.

6 Addressing The Computer Science/Mathematics Employee Shortage Beginning with the 2015/2016 School year LakeView will add a strand to our Information Technology Program and retitle it as Information Technology/Computer Science/Mathematics in our IT Networking Academy, a part of LakeView Technology Academy. LakeView will add the following Computer Science/Mathematics courses -AP Computer Science A (Java) - 2015/2016 -AP Computer Science AB (Advanced Java) and AP Computer Science Programming- 2016/2017

7 Proposed Criteria for Admission into LakeView Technology Academy REGULAR EDUCATION STUDENTS Pre-engineering/science/mathematics Bachelors Degree program: B or better in middle school mathematics, science, and reading Proficient or Advanced in 6 th and 7 th grade mathematics and reading WKCE No more than 5 tardies from September through January of the 8 th grade year No more than 3 absences from September through January of the 8 th grade year* An exception may be made for documented medical absences No out of school suspensions during 8 th grade Meeting all of the above criteria will be an automatic acceptance pending room… Technical College Associates Degree Program: C or better in middle school mathematic, science, and reading Proficient or Advanced in 6 th and 7 th grade mathematics and reading WKCE No more than 5 tardies from September through January of the 8 th grade year

8 Proposed Criteria for Admission into LakeView Technology Academy REGULAR EDUCATION STUDENTS (continued) No more than 3 absences from September through January of the 8 th grade year. *An exception may be made for documented medical absences No out of school suspensions during 8 th grade Meeting all of the above criteria will be an automatic acceptance pending room… Students will be accepted as per the following: 1.Siblings of a presently enrolled student and meeting all minimum requirements - 1 st Special Education Students who meet all the minimum requirements and are determined able to matriculate the curriculum by Special Education Staff 2.Female students who meet all the minimum requirements 3.Pre-engineering students who meet all the minimum requirements 4.Male students who meet all the minimum requirements and may require a lottery for the 4 th group

No more than 5 absences from September through January of the 8 th grade year. *An exception may be made for documented medical absences No out of school suspension during 8 th grade All Special Education Students whose current IEP can be met including goals, program, and aid and services can be implemented in the all inclusive environment at LTA Meeting all the above criteria will be an automatic acceptance pending room.
