4. Information about Title I
Deer Valley Unified School District has fourteen Title I schools. These schools are identified to receive Title I funding based on free and reduced lunch percentages. Schools that have 35% or more of their students receiving free or reduced lunch receive Title I funding under a Targeted Assistive Program.

6. Schoolwide Programs What is a Schoolwide Program? Purpose Goal
•Comprehensive reform strategy designed to upgrade the entire educational program in a Title I school.
Goal
•Ensures that ALL students –particularly those who are low-achieving –meet and exceed levels of achievement on state academic standards.
Most Title I schools in Deer Valley are Schoolwide Programs. This means the Title programs serve all children in a school. All staff, resources, and classes are part of the overall Schoolwide program. The purpose is to generate high levels of academic achievement in core subject areas for all students, especially those students most in need.

7. Requirements For Targeted Assistance Programs
At least 35% low income student population.
Conduct a Comprehensive Needs Assessment.
Identify and commit to specific goals and strategies to address those prioritized needs.
Implement a comprehensive reform model.
Create a comprehensive plan focusing on successful academic achievement for students who are below grade level proficiency rates.
Conduct an annual evaluation of the effectiveness of the Schoolwide Program.

6th Grade Math is above the district average by 16 points.
3rd Grade improved by 14 points in ELA and 8 points in Math.
Former 3rd Graders taking the test as 4th Graders this year improved by 15 points in ELA and 7 points in Math.

Better school attendance
Increased motivation, better self-esteem
Lower rates of suspension
Decreased use of drugs and alcohol
Fewer instances of violent behavior

When schools encourage children to practice reading at home with parents, the children make significant gains in reading achievement compared to those who only practice at school.
The most consistent predictors of children’s academic achievement and social adjustment are parent expectations of the child’s academic attainment and satisfaction with their child’s education at school.

17. Rights of Parents to be Involved
Deer Valley schools are required to set aside 1% of Title I funding for parental involvement. All Title I schools emphasize bringing in parents as academic partners and each school receives funding to further this partnership. 19. Curriculum College and Career Ready Standards
Title I requires research based assessment systems including the use of data based decision, high quality professional development, and the implementation of research-based instructional strategies to ensure the academic achievement of all children.
Title I also requires that instruction be provided by highly qualified staff and that strategies are included to increase parental involvement.

20. Highly Qualified Teachers
All DVUSD Title I school currently have ALL Highly Qualified Teachers
If a teacher does not meet the Highly Qualified NCLB’s requirements, parents will be notified with a letter

You, as Title I Parents, have the right to request the qualifications of your child’s teachers
The “Right to Review Qualifications” notice is on school and district websites
