3 Tonight’s Agenda Elementary and Secondary Education Act Information about Title I Title I Requirements School Eligibility Title I School-Wide Program at Village Meadows Interventionist and Para-Professional Services Parental Rights & Involvement Curriculum Assessments

4 Elementary and Secondary Education Act Enacted by Congress April 11, 1965 Created to provide federal funding to primary and secondary education The first title (Title I) of this act provided funding specifically to schools based on poverty levels Act has been re-authorized every 5-7 years

5 Information about Title I Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs. These dollars are used for:  Identifying students experiencing academic difficulties and providing timely assistance to help these student’s meet the state’s challenging content standards.  Purchasing supplemental staff/programs/materials/supplies  Conducting Parental Involvement meetings/trainings/activities  Recruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Qualified Teachers

6 Title I Requirements Schools must comply with Federal and State laws regarding Title I Federal funds must be used for supplementary educational programs and materials Programs and materials must support student progress

7 School Eligibility Schools that have a Free and Reduced lunch percentage falling between 35-39% become eligible to be a Targeted-Assistance Title I School Schools at 40% and above F&R Lunch are eligible for a school-wide Title I Program Village Meadows has 85% percent of its students receiving Free and Reduced Lunch This F&R Lunch list is highly confidential

8 Title I School-Wide Program at Village Meadows Program funds provide: Student skill-based interventions provided by Reading Specialists Student instructional support during the school day with “highly qualified” teachers and para-professionals State-of-the-Art Technology

9 Interventionist and Para- Professional Services An Interventionist is a “Highly Qualified,” Certified Teacher or para- professional providing targeted interventions to support students Village Meadows Title I Program provides Interventionist Services in the content area of Reading (Grades K-6)

10 Instructional Technology High-Speed, Dell Computers Document Cameras/Projectors 3 Newly Equipped Computer Labs (34 Computers in each) Ipads in Classrooms (Kinder – 3 rd grades) Technological Interventions targeted to specific learning needs based on data using an on-line system, Galileo and SuccessMaker

11 Parental Rights Right to help revise the Village Meadows Parent Involvement Policy Right to help amend the Village Meadows School/Parent/Student Compact Right to help develop programs to meet curriculum needs at Village Meadows Right to be involved in Title I funding decisions for parent involvement activities

12 Parental Involvement in the Educational Process at Home Educational Materials Books Magazines Puzzles Games Computer Programs Flashcards Family Activities Allowance/Counting Money Analog Clocks/Watch Reading Informational Texts Functional Text/Recipes Games

13 Parental Involvement in the Educational Process at School Increases student achievement Opportunities listed in the quarterly school newsletter Visit the school website for more information Opportunity to join PTO and CIP

14 Curriculum Aligned with Arizona Academic Standards, formerly known as Common Core A variety of strategies are implemented to help ensure that students are mastering the content necessary to become proficient in all subject areas

15 Breakfast in the Classroom Morning Procedures:  8:30 a.m gates will be opened and all students will go to their classrooms  Teachers will begin serving breakfast at 8:32 a.m.  If students arrive after 8:42 a.m. they will not receive breakfast  Students do not have to eat but all students will be offered breakfast  Parents will receive monthly menus  Breakfast is FREE for all students  Parents cannot eat with students Students who eat breakfast will have greater attention and concentration. Eating breakfast has shown an increase in student achievement scores!

How will parents receive updates on progress?  Progress Reports (every 4 ½ weeks)  Report Cards (every 9 weeks)  Parent Conferences (Oct. & Feb.)  PowerSchool (24 hr. online access)  Testing Reports (Galileo, DIBELS, AZELLA, AzMerit)

17 Parent Tech Center Open: 7:30 am – 4:30 pm Located in the front office  Free Internet access to check your child’s grades, lunch account, district and school websites  Printer for your convenience  Collection of 15 minute DVDs about parenting, school, etc. (Headphones available to listen to DVDs)
