2 Learning and teaching take place in a variety of situations
Learning and teaching take place in a variety of situations. Instructional settings and strategies should create an environment that reflects a constructive, active view of the learning process. Learning occurs through actively constructing one’s own meaning and assimilating new information to develop a new understanding. Learning experiences in this year will vary and will include opportunities for group and individual work, discussion among students as well as between teacher and student, and hands- on/minds-on activities that allow students to construct and evaluate what they are learning.

3 Science: Grade 7 French Immersion Program

4 Life Science: Interactions Within Ecosystems (September to December)
General Curriculum Outcomes Life Science: Interactions Within Ecosystems (September to December) This unit enables students to study the diversity of organisms by introducing them to the characteristics of various organisms and presenting different ways in which organisms interact within ecosystems. Topics studied include: Biotic and abiotic factors of an ecosystem Roles of producers, consumers and decomposers in an ecosystem Biological classification Food chains Protection of habitat Science…

5 Physical Science: Mixtures and Solutions (December to February)
General Curriculum Outcomes  Physical Science: Mixtures and Solutions (December to February) In this unit students will explore and investigate the similarities and differences between general mixtures and solutions, as well as a variety of ways to separate the components parts of these materials. Topics studied include: -particle theory of matter -WHIMIS -Qualitative and quantitative distinctions -pure substances vs mixtures Science…

6 General Curriculum Outcomes
Earth’s Crust (February to May) An inquiry-based approach to this unit will permit students to investigate many of the properties of the Earth to which they have had some exposure. Topics studied include: -plate tectonics -classification of minerals and rocks -weathering of rocks and causes Science…

7 General Curriculum Outcomes
Physical Science: Heat (May to June) Students will have the opportunity to explore the properties of heat and how they are related to the measurement of temperature. Topics studied include: -use of various instruments to measure heat -state of matter and reactions and changes with heat -heat capacity and absorption of common materials Science…

8 Strategies for Meeting Science Outcomes
With all units in Science, I plan to meet the outcomes in the following manner: Use the textbook to give background information on the unit being covered and to do the related questions to reinforce student learning. Notes given by myself on the units to simplify the language in order to foster student understanding and knowledge. Labs work done in class. Movies related to the material at hand to see science at work in the ‘real world’. Worksheets and experiments for students to foster learning. Science…

9 Possible methods of assessments for all subjects
will/may involve, but not limited to, the following: Classroom work Tests/quizzes Projects (individual/group) In-class/take-home assignments (labs) Journal writing, reflective writing Labs Participation Presentations Science…

10 Mathematics: Grade 7 French Immersion

11 Welcome to grade 7 french immersion mathematics
Welcome to grade 7 french immersion mathematics. During the school year, students in grade 7 will be provided opportunities to demonstrate their understanding of the “General Curriculum Outcomes or the GCOs” related to various topics.

15 Strategies for Meeting Mathematics Outcomes
With all units in Mathematics, I plan to meet the outcomes in the following manner: Exercises done with the textbook to ensure learning and to practice new mathematics learned at home through homework. Notes given by myself on the units to reinforce the new skills being learned and to provide students with the necessary rules of math and order of operations for the units. Worksheets provided to students to reinforce learning. Problem solving to expand on the mathematical outcomes and to teach students how to troubleshoot with regards to problem solving. Group work and presentations of mathematical work within the class so that students learn from each other as well as from myself, the teacher Mathematics…
