2 Leeds City College: The college is made up of, what was originally, 6 colleges within the Leeds City region College are investing in developing the buildings and estate to provide state of the art facilities for all students Printworks Park Lane University Centre Technology Campus Keighley Apprenticeships are seen by the college as the main area of growth as the government drives employers to recruit apprentices to meet the requirements for, and demands of economic growth All curriculum departments are developing apprenticeships that meet the needs of an ever changing economy and that meet the skills development of young people in the priority skill areas identified by the Leeds LEP

3 Leeds City College apprenticeships:
The college delivers and offers a wide range of apprenticeships including but not restricted to: Engineering Motor Vehicle Warehousing and Logistics IT – networking and software Business, Legal and Financial Services AAT Marketing Hospitality and Catering Hair and Beauty Child Care Health and Social Care / Clinical Health Sport

4 Leeds City College apprenticeships:
The majority of apprenticeships at the college are available at L2 Intermediate to L3 Advanced levels and some at L4 and 5. The college are presently developing and mapping existing apprenticeships to Higher/Degree Apprenticeships to support the need for higher skill levels in the region. The college offers bespoke delivery patterns to accommodate employer needs – for instance: Day release Block release Delivery on employer premises Distance learning All apprentices have a designated assessor who will work with them and with the employer throughout the apprenticeship

5 Changing landscape for apprenticeships:
Government target of 3 million by 2020 Employer led Apprenticeships given equal legal protection to degrees Abolition of employer NI contributions for apprentices under 25 years of age Public sector Apprenticeship 2.3% target Introduction of Degree Apprenticeship New Institute of Apprenticeship SME’s to co-invest in Apprenticeship : £1 for every £10 government contributes Large employers to pay through new 0.5% payroll Apprenticeship levy

6 What are the changes as we move from Frameworks to Standards?
Greater involvement by employers in the training and developing of their apprentices Focus on end point assessment through Occupational Standards as opposed to on-going assessment of competency as in the Framework model Employers negotiate and agree training plans with College New Apprenticeship Trailblazer Standards developed and agreed by employers End point assessment to be independent from the provider Robust and rigorous end point assessment will grade apprentices with a pass, merit or distinction
