Main Enhancements Restyling of the Graphical User Interface:
Aligned with new GEO Web-site Simpler (less ‘noisy’) More Intuitive (‘easier to use’) In particular: Improved home page Improved search Improved results display This should all contribute to a Better User Experience

Main Enhancements Improved search
<simple search>: Invites users to initiate a search immediately via key-words and AOI. Available directly from the GEOSS Portal Home Page. <multi-criteria search>: Allows users to perform searches with additional search parameters. Available via an expansible menu. <refined search>: Allows users to refine their searches using results-specific filter parameters to narrow down the number of results. Available when results are displayed.

Main Enhancements Results display
<Collapsible results display>: Regards as-text-displayed results – provides users a better map-experience. Available from results window (arrow-up/down). <Expansible data collections>: More intuitive and direct access to data at granules-level. Available via from collection results (icon). <Enhanced text-map results linking>: Improved visual inspection of spatial against thematic data. Available from results are displayed. <More intuitive use of icons>: Easier to find the information the user is looking for. Available when results are displayed. <Filtering of results>: Relevant to identify trees in the forest of results. Available from initial results.

GEOSS-Portal Architectural Considerations Possibility to reuse Portal functionality Component-based Portlet-oriented Multi-modality (e.g. use on mobile devices) Service-busses oriented As perspective for the future we can see (eventually, a large number of) specialised apps for single use cases that can be plugged into a common ground or base-plate. (Non-expert) users can get answers to their specific questions from these single purpose apps right away; i.e. they will not have to deal with the details of EO data
