8 The Qing Dynasty ( ) The Manchu overthrew the Ming and established a new dynasty. To identify the rebels, the government ordered all males to shave their foreheads and braid their hair into a pigtail called a queue.

9 The Qing Dynasty The Canton System only allowed traders a few months access to China’s trade and only under government supervision. The Chinese had no desire for European goods – forced to pay in gold and silver
