3 LO1 - To identify where the Kayapo Indians live – D/C
Where in the world am I? record where you think the Kayapo Indians Live, the clue you guessed at and the allocated points. Rules You only get one guess. Try and get as high a score as possible (so guess early!) We use Trees and Plants as building materials Medicines are made from over 650 species of plants where we live Clue 2 = 9 points Clue 1 = 10 points We hunt for our food each day Clue 5 = 6 points We tribes people build our villages in a communal circular fashion Clue 3 = 8 points We enjoy collecting wild fruit and nuts to eat Clue 6 = 5 points Clue 7 = 4 points We live on the Xingu river which is a tributary(small stream) that leads to the famous River Amazon Clue 4 = 7 points Much of our home is being threatened from illegal logging Clue 8 = 3 points Clue 9 = 2 points Clue 10 = 1 point Clue 11 = 0 points! 4 What is Sustainability?
1 Minute to REFLECT and think, with your partner what you think sustainability means? Write your definition in your book. Sustainability means: “Using methods and materials that won't deplete natural resources or harm the natural environment for future generations to use” (Write definition in your book!) A method of using the Rainforest Sustainably is called… “Shifting Cultivation” or “Slash and Burn” although this is debatable! LO2 - To consider the ways in which the Kayapo People live sustainably D/C/B/A

5 SLASH AND BURN (SHIFTING CULTIVATION) – The process of farming in pictures.
Cut trees Burn trees and land 30 Seconds to remember this slide! …Then NUMBER YOUR STATEMENTS IN ORDER. Cut and Stick them in a cycle and add some drawings. Indians move to another part of forest Plant crops for 3-4 years Rain washes away soil and goodness LO3 - To consider the ways in which the Kayapo People live sustainably – D/C/B/A

6 What have we learnt? Answer the following question:
Q) Do you think the Kayapo Indians live in a sustainable way? Yes/No...Explain your answer. Remember sustainable means that it can stay that way for a long time without damage to people or the environment. Peer Assessment Criteria: D – Response is a basic opinion with 2 – 3 reasons to back up decision. No mention of future. C – Response is a strong opinion with 4 – 5 reasons to back up decision. Refers to future generations. B – Wide range of reasons for decision with reference to the future of the Rainforest environment and the Kayapo’s social way of life. A+ - Has done the above. Included the prompts to offer alternative ways of living in the Rainforest that are more sustainable in the future. My Progress AFL – Feedback 2 stars and 1 wish!
