Strategies to help you communicate with Deaf people. Signing: Deaf people are patient with new signers and encourage you to sign Gestures: If signing doesn’t work, the Deaf person may use gestures to be understood or pointing, or acting things out. Writing or typing: or instant messenger can be used, or for face-to-face interactions, pagers/cell phones can be used then shown to the other person. (Pen and paper can be used similarly.)
