JOINT UCSB/ Cal Poly/ Fresno State SPRING FTX 2010

2 Mission of Spring FTX UCSB, Cal Poly, and Fresno State will conduct a joint FTX at Camp San Luis Obispo from 22 April until 25 April 2010, in order to conduct Army training by focusing on the development of critical leadership and soldier skills.

3 Commander’s Intent To conduct a safe and well executed joint FTX. Focusing on tactical training, leadership development, and Land navigation (Day/ Night/ Written). 5 5

4 General Scenario The country of Atropia has requested military assistance from the United States against Arianan insurgent forces in Southern Atropia. CDTs deploy to Atropia and operate out of FOB San Luis Obispo (Camp San Luis Obispo) in order to support combat operations and on order, conduct Stability Operations along the Atropia-Ariana international border IOT maintain Atropia’s territorial integrity and prevent enemy forces from influencing the local population.

8 Communications Support
Cadets are permitted to maintain their personal cell phones but are not permitted to use cell phones during the training event. All Cadre members will provide personal cell phone number to the TOC. ROOs will provide the TOC their cell number if in the area. Cadre will approve emergency cell phone use.

9 Medical Support 3 Medics will be on duty at all times
Each medic will have a complete medics aide bag present at all times. Task: Navigate from One Point on the Ground to Another Point While Dismounted Conditions: Given a standard topographic map of the area, scale 1:50,000, a coordinate scale and protractor, a compass, and writing materials Standards: Move on foot to designated points. Conditions: Given a squad sized element, a mission to execute an ambush, 45 minutes to plan, 45 minutes to execute Standards: Satisfactorily execute Troop Leading Procedures

24 Lane 2/9 MTC Task: Conduct a Movement to Contact by a Platoon ( ) Conditions: Given a platoon, and a mission requiring movement to contact, in a combat environment. Standards: Developed a plan that included objectives, routes, key terrain, fire support, formations, and other required control measures. Included in the preparations the cleaning and test firing of weapons, maintenance of vehicles and equipment, and the resupply of ammunition or needed equipment. Made contact with the threat with the smallest possible element. Developed the situation by controlling movement and fires. Submitted situation reports as required.

25 Lane 3/6 SQD Attack Task: Conduct Squad Attack (7-4-D101)
Conditions: The squad is moving as part of a platoon conducting a movement to contact or hasty or deliberate attack. Standards: 1. The squad is not surprised or fixed by the enemy. 2. Squad members locate and engage known or suspected enemy positions with well-aimed fire. 3. The squad kills, captures, or forces the withdrawal of the enemy.

26 Lane 4/8 Recon Task: Conduct an Area Recon by a Platoon (071-720-0015)
Conditions: Given a 1:50,000 map, a lensatic compass, and a mission to conduct an area reconnaissance within a specified time. Standards: Satisfactorily performed the following within the time specified by the commander: 1. Organized the platoon into the command, reconnaissance, and security elements needed to accomplish the mission. 2. Conducted a reconnaissance using the surveillance or vantage-point method. 3. Obtained and reported information about the terrain and enemy within the specified area. 4. Entered and left the target area without being detected by the enemy.

27 Lane 5/10 KOB Task: Knock Out a Bunker (Squad) (7-4-D107)
CONDITIONS: Squad receives fire from an enemy bunker while moving at night as part of a larger force. STANDARDS: 1. The squad destroys the designated bunker by killing, capturing, or forcing the withdrawal of enemy personnel in the bunker. 2. The squad maintains sufficient fighting force to defeat the enemy's counterattack and continue operations. 3. No fratricide.

Friendly Forces: (1) Higher Unit: A Company defends BP YANKEE NLT (H+45) to defeat enemy forces. (2) Left unit Mission: 2PLT,A Co, defends BP METS NLT (H+45) to defeat enemy forces. (3) Right Unit Mission: 3PLT, A Co, defends BP DDODGERS NLT (H+45) to defeat enemy forces. Attach/Detach: None MISSION: 1PLT establishes an area ambush NLT (H+90) to destroy enemy patrols vic GE to prevent the enemy from locating avenues of approach into BP YANKEE. SITUATION: A. Enemy: Scouts are reporting fire team size SAPA patrols to our front men lightly armed who have conducted hit and run ambushes against Atropian forces. The enemy will fight if engaged. B. Friendly Forces: (1) Higher Unit: A Co conducts movement to contact oriented on OBJ GETTYSBURG GE NLT (H+45) to regain contact with enemy. (2) Left unit Mission: 2PLT,A Co, defends BP MEADE NLT (H+45) to defeat enemy forces. (3) Right Unit Mission: 3PLT, A Co, defends BP HANCOCK NLT (H+45) to defeat enemy forces. Attach/Detach: None MISSION: 1PLT conducts MTC in AO Pennsylvania towards OBJ GETTYSBURG GE NLT (H+45) to regain contact with the enemy. EXECUTION: Intent: To destroy all enemy in the area A. Concept: (1) Maneuver : The PLT is the Advance guard of a company approach march. The platoon will move in wedge formation, traveling overwatch with 1SQD as lead squad, 2SQD on right, 3SQD on left. Once contact is made and the size of the enemy determined, the lead squad will either attack to destroy the enemy and be prepared to suppress the enemy so the platoon can maneuver. (2) Fires: TBD B. Task Man/Units: 1SQD, the lead squad, crosses the LD NLT (H+45). SITUATION: A. Enemy: Elements of SAPA have been seen digging fighting positions throughout our AO. The fighting positions are being used by insurgents to engage with Atropian units. Security consists of 2-3 armed soldiers who will defend the sites. B. Friendly Forces: (1) Higher Unit: A Company attacks OBJ ABRAMS GE NLT(H+90) to destroy enemy supply assets. 2) Right unit: 2 PLT, A Co, attacks OBJ PATTON NLT (H+90) to destroy enemy cache site. (3) Left Unit: 3 PLT, A Co, attacks NLT (H+90) OBJ SHERMAN to destroy enemy cache site. Attach/Detach: None MISSION: 1 PLT attacks along Route BLUE to OBJ SHERIDAN vic GE NLT (H+90) to destroy enemy fighting positions. EXECUTION: Intent: Successful destruction of enemy forces. A. Concept (1) Maneuver: 1PLT will cross LD at (H+45) in a PLT wedge formation. 1SQD, PLT main effort, is lead element in PLT wedge. 2SQD on right, 3SQD on left. We will move along Route BLUE to an assault position, TBD by 1SL (METT-TC) meters from the OBJ. From the Assault Position, 1SQD will attack the site. 2SQD will protect right flank. 3SQD in reserve and provides rear security. (2) Fires: TBD B.
