4 Operations and Algebraic Thinking
Students will: Use the four operations with whole numbers and decimals to solve problems. Gain familiarity with factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers. Generate and analyze patterns. 4

5 Number and Operations in Base Ten
Students will: Generalize place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers less than or equal to 1,000,000,000 and decimals to the thousandths. Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic. 5

6 Number and Operations in Fractions
Students will: Extend understanding of fraction equivalence and finding common denominators. Build fractions from unit fractions by applying and extending previous understandings of operations of whole numbers. Use visual fraction models such as grids and tables to multiply a fraction by a fraction. Understand decimal notation for fractions, and compare decimal fractions. 6

7 Measurement and Data Students will:
Solve problems involving measurement and conversion of measurements from a larger unit to a smaller unit. Explore the concept of the volume of solid figures. Represent and interpret data. Geometric measurement: understand concepts of angle and measure angles. 7

8 Geometry Students will: Draw and identify lines and angles.
Classify shapes by properties of their lines and angles. Graph points on a coordinate plane. 8

17 Homework Math homework helps build better understanding of concepts taught in the classroom. Students should read at least 25 minutes per night. Wordly Wise (over two weeks) Online sites: TenMarks, Haiku, Studies Weekly, Discovery Education, Envision Math Book, StoryWorks Each student is responsible for making up assignments when absent from school. Students are not allowed to come back to the classroom if they forget their homework or call parents if they leave it at home.

18 Grades are weighted as follows:
Grading Scale 100-90=A Excellent progress (Working independently, mastering content at a high level)  89-80=B Good progress (Working independently, above average content mastery) 79-70=C Satisfactory progress (Adequate/expected progress of grade level content)  69-60=D Slow progress (Below grade level and/or difficulty working independently)  59 and below=F Not meeting grade-level expectations (Unable to work independently) Grades are weighted as follows: Tests 35% Quizzes 25% Classwork 30% Participation 10%

19 Accessing Grades Parents can access grades at any time using ParentPortal. I will make every effort to enter grades weekly.

20 Testing/Assessments WSFCS students will be given benchmark assessments at the end of each quarter in reading and math. Students will take the Ready EOG in May/June.

21 Field Trips Raleigh October 20
In school “field trips” MOA October 26 and 27 Hiddenite April 28 Chaperones must be approved as a level 2 volunteer.

22 PowerSchool/Haiku Powerschool/Haiku will be used for class information during second quarter. Current websites will no longer exist.
