1 in the Transport Sector
Introduction The World Bank East Asia and Pacific region intends to strengthen its role providing HIV/AIDS awareness in transport through streamlining its intervention program. To support this, an HIV/AIDS education toolkit, including curricula, materials and monitoring frameworks, was created with the purpose of implementing successful HIV awareness campaigns associated with transport projects. This toolkit, called the Road to Good Health, was funded by the World Bank’s Global HIV/AIDS Program, and shall be implemented over the next 20 months on five Bank-funded projects in region. The intervention, to proceed concurrently with civil works activities on the 3 projects in China, 1 in Vietnam and 1 in Cambodia, shall be overseen by an international managing consultant, Mr. Robb Butler. Mr. Butler has worked in the field of HIV Communications and research throughout the region and for organizations such as the UNDP and ADB over the past 15 years. He will use the upcoming GDLN session (November 25, Asia time) to convey the objectives of toolkit application on transport projects, discuss the roles and responsibilities of project counterparts, set expectations and inform all parties of upcoming events for program implementation. The intended audience of these two presentations and subsequent discussions are the implementing staff, particularly project managers and safeguards specialists, among the World Bank and Client task teams associated with the projects. Seminar Agenda This seminar will discuss the next steps to advance the HIV/AIDS awareness campaign under this project, including the distribution of education materials, training of government counterparts, and knowledge-building among construction contractors. Participants will have the opportunity to ask the managing consultant, Mr. Butler, general questions about the HIV/AIDS education campaign, and their role in the program’s development and implementation. It is hoped that both project teams on the Bank-side and the Client-side will have a good understanding of the planned intervention and activities following this session.
