3 Global CE / HTM Success Stories
Biomedical and Clinical Engineering into New Hospital Design and Construction Key Success Story The Biomedical Engineering Department NIB of the Universidad de la República worked with Administrators, Architects and Clinicians to develop a definition and purchase procedure for a new state owned ASSE Hospital in Montevideo, “Hospital Pasteur”. The NIB responsibilities were to cover all of the medical equipment after interaction and agreement reached with - administration - clinical staff - architecture March 2016 Global CE / HTM Success Stories

4 Global CE / HTM Success Stories
Biomedical and Clinical Engineering into New Hospital Design and Construction Key Success Story RESULTS: 217 types medical equipments were specified for purchase Teaching model derived to use as practice and course For the first time in Uruguay, equipment specified before the building was build Pneumatic messaging reduces 25% of internal circulation Surgical video included in Electronic Clinical Records March 2016 Global CE / HTM Success Stories

5 Conclusions and Action Plan
The Hospital Pasteur has taken part in a interdisciplinary effort to better choose equipment for clinical use, before the premises were build, giving valuable input to the architects in terms of dimensions for autoclave, circulation, surgical apparati and telecommunications. The University has obtained a valuable experience to be used as example in Clinical Engineering Teaching. The future users of the Hospital will benefit from a practical 6 stations pneumatic messaging system, in strategic locations of the new building (three stations) along with other three stops in nearby vintage hospital, refurbished for some functions. The electronic clinical record of the new Hospital will include still and moving images captured at the surgeons command during operations, in DICOM and CDA formats, for the benefit of better evidence recorded for clinical decision making. The long term savings in terms of adequate purchases and better maching of premises and equipment will be estimated in the next years, as fewer modifications and adaptations will be necessary.
