15 Digit VIN Match with MV Database
2
Motor Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) are authenticated and any discrepancies are returned to the reporting insurance company. Previously, our program confirmed a match of all 17 digits prior to updating. Two phases of programming have been developed to minimize or reduce the amount of errors.
3
Phase 1 - Implemented This Phase only allowed the VIN to be edited with a software package to verify each digit of the VIN. We currently only update the Alternate VIN to our Insurance database. Inbound Policy Add Record with VIN - 4T18E46KB7U004S33 Software Package T18E46K87U004533 Insurance Policies received with VINs with 2 or less errors are now allowed to update the Insurance Database and are viewed as an Alternate VIN. This has contributed to the reduction of Pending Suspension notices sent to our customers. Software package is from RL Polk. We check all vehicles registered to the customer (based on DLN on the policy) and then do the 15 digit check against all those VINs. A valid DLN is extremely important to provide to us.

Registration Database
Currently, the policies reported to us are directly linked to the insurance database, but only an exact match to the 17 digits are used to validate insurance with the Motor Vehicle database. Insurance Company Policy Insurance Database Registration Database Currently the policies reported to us are directly linked to the insurance database but they are not linked to the Motor Vehicle database.

Both VINs will be added to the Insurance database – the VIN from the insurance company and the VIN found on the Registration Database.
