OI for short. “Imperfect bones at the beginning of time” Not exactly the same as Osteoporosis Poor Bone density Genetically carried Triggered by missing Collagen protein – like a puzzle COL1A1 and COL1A2

5 Type 4 correlates of type 1 and 2 in higher severity
Types of OI Type 1 is mild Brittle teeth Normal stature Weak muscles Loose joints Type 2 and 3 are severe Several fractures Bone deformities Poor posture Underdeveloped lungs Type 4 correlates of type 1 and 2 in higher severity

7 Things to think about when handling with a child diagnosed with OI
High consumption in calcium and vitamin D. Children with OI are prone to fractures. Transportation: car seats, strollers… Bathing Clothing Going to school

8 To parents, it is important…
To know that other parents who have children with OI are normally raised like any other child. More attention, care and love are involved. Go seek genetic counseling. To understand that it is not your wrongdoing.
