9. 2 Working Groups Formed WG03 – General Ventilation Filters
Chair / Convener – Jan Gustavsson (Sweden)
This work is already in progress. It was transferred from ISO/TC117/WG08. As part of the transfer, the schedule of this WG was moved to allow more time before the Standard must be published.
The WG is developing a Standard that is based on EN 779, with modifications to accommodate some of the content in ASHRAE Standard 52.2.
There was a separate day-long meeting for this WG on 1/12/06. See separate minutes.
Some discussion as to whether or not to include Residential air filters. A Task Group was formed.

10. WG04 – HEPA and ULPA Filters
Chair / Convener – R. Vijayakumar (USA)
It is assumed that this WG will use IEST RP-CC001.4, CC007.1, CC021.2 and CC0034.2, along with CEN EN 1822 as the basis for an ISO Test Standard. There may be other Standards to include in this list, but they were not discussed.

11. 6 Task Groups Formed
The goal of the Task Group is to research a specific area of filtration and recommend a course of action to TC142. Those courses of action include:
Form a full WG and proceed with development of an ISO document. (Standard, Technical Specification or Technical Report)
Incorporate the topic into the work of an existing WG. This may take the shape of an Annex to an ISO document or it could be something else.
Continue to evaluate this topic. A TC can place several items in a Preliminary stage, while they get all the information together. There is no deadline on how long something can sit in this Preliminary stage.
Note that, in all cases, the finished ISO document MUST be completed within 5 years of the start date.

12. TG02 – Incorporation of US Residential filters into an ISO Standard
TG01 – Terminology

Probably an ISO Technical Report, based on a CEN document that is nearing completion that covers this same scope.
TG02 – Incorporation of US Residential filters into an ISO Standard
Chair – Phil Winters (USA)
Since the US is by far the largest market for low-efficiency residential filters, TC142 felt that the US should recommend how best to accommodate these filters into ISO Standards.
Note that there is an assumed link within the European participants that all residential filters are low efficiency (MERV 1-4) and that all low-efficiency filters are used in residential applications. We will need to decide if we are going to recommend a Residential filter accommodation or a low-efficiency filter accommodation.

13. TG07 – In-Service Behavior of Air-Cleaning Devices
Chair – Don Thornburg (USA)
It is assumed that the document from this TG would be a Technical Specification or a Technical Report, not a Standard.
This work would be based on EUROVENT 4/10 and the work being done in ASHRAE GPC 26.
TG08 – Gas-Phase Contamination Removal Devices
Chair – Keith Morris (UK)
It was noted that the scope of AMC contamination is as broad as particulate contamination and that this TG will need to decide if they will try to create a document that covers all aspects of AMC control (e.g. power plant emissions to clean rooms).

14. TG09 – Air Intake Filters for Stationary Gas Turbines
Chair – Ulf Johansson (Sweden)
It was noted that there are other ISO TCs that are responsible for mobile Gas Turbines, so they are out of the scope of this TC.
TG12 – UV-C Devices (or “Sterilization Devices” or “Antimicrobial Devices”)
Chair Derald Welles (USA)
The first task of this group will be to decide on a title that has a broader scope. The TC was not interested in creating a WG for just UV-C devices alone. The scope needs to include other methods for eliminating viable microbes in an air handling system.

17. Important Considerations
The time frame for this is very tight.
Jan has asked for all testing to be completed by 2/27/06.
Final draft of CD to main ISO/TC142 by 6/12/06 (before our next ASHRAE meeting).
Vienna Agreement requires that Europe drop its Standard whenever an ISO Standard covers the same topic. Therefore, if/when this ISO Standard is approved,
EN 779 will be withdrawn
ASHRAE 52.2 could live on forever
The European participants are very aware of this
