3 slide 3 The EU CENSE project (Oct. 2007 - March 2010) Aim of the project: To accelerate adoption and improved effectiveness of the EPBD related CEN- standards in the EU Member States These standards were successively published in the years 2007-2008 and are being implemented or planned to be implemented in many EU Member States. However, the full implementation is not a trivial task Main project activities: A.To widely communicate role, status and content of these standards; to provide guidance on the implementation B.To collect comments and good practice examples from Member States aiming to remove obstacles C.To prepare recommendations to CEN for a “second generation” of standards on the integrated energy performance of buildings

7 slide 7 What is need for ventilation design The ventilation design is based on 3 types of data and parameters : The design criteria : regroups the data needed for design, including those not directly related to indoor air and ventilation systems; e.g : the construction data, the use of the room, the systems requirement in terms of control and maintenance The classification data : regroups the different classifications and specification of air, the different type of system functions, and data on system functioning and system energy performance, such as pressure conditions, specific fan power or heat recovery. The indoor environment : defines the operative temperature, the thermal environment, the main actors of indoor air quality, the indoor air humidity, the acoustic environment, the internal loads

11 slide 11 Guidelines for mechanical ventilation Annex A gives guidelines established for mechanical ventilation and air-conditioning systems for building subject to human occupancy. The user will find there some design values and recommendations (for proper consideration of outdoor air quality, selection of air filters and heat recovery, pressure conditions in the system and building, space requirements and accessibility of equipment) to set up the appropriate ventilation system on the building. Guideline for economic aspects Annex B explains the basis of the present value method to evaluate the net present cost of a certain investment. It refers to another standard for details.

12 slide 12 Checklist An example of a checklist is given in Annex C. This is a list of items to be taken into account in the installation design. This checklist is devided in the following parts : Checklist for the planning of the building Checklist for the planning of the HVAC-system Checklist for the designing of individual components Checklist for the use of the system Calculation an application of specific fan power Annex D defines how to calculate the specific fan power (SFP) of fans and air handling units (AHU). The calculated parameters are : The specific fan power for individual fans and AHUs The weighted SFP value for the whole building in real operating conditions
