4. Human Rights Violations in Chile
A 1973 military coup lifted Augusto Pinochet to the presidency. Human rights violations were rampant during his regime.
At least 70 people were murdered on the Death Caravan, while at least three thousand more were killed during the next 16 years under Pinochet.
Concentration camps were established throughout the country and many who opposed Pinochet disappeared and were never found. Bone splinters were found in limestone oven in Lonquén.
