How Our Workshops Operate
Each client receives a minimum of 1 hour. No limit.
Each workshop is 2 hours long.
Intake process provided by our partners (Client ID & Verification and income verification)
Conflicts check
Assignment of clients
Work of drafting forms falls to the paralegal. They may have an assistant.
Duty counsel reviews all forms before handed to the SRL.
No legal advice is given.
Each workshop has its own timetable running every 2,3 or 4 weeks.
Volunteers are generally asked to serve every 6 weeks. 5

Divorce in the Context of Filipino TFWs Seeking Canadian Citizenship
From a legal standpoint, apart from navigating Canada’s laws (i.e. the Divorce Act RSC 1985 and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act); British Columbia’s laws (i.e. the Evidence Act RSBC 1996, and the Family Law Act SBC 2011) as well as the British Columbia Supreme Court Family Rules; there are also jurisdictional issues involving Philippine law, and in particular, the prohibition of divorce, one can appreciate how complex their situation is.
