2 Case Analysis Guidelines
Goal: Hone your skills at seeing opportunities for operational improvement, diagnosing problems and barriers, and designing efficient and effective solutions. Structure: An opening paragraph that provides an abstract of the paper – issues raised, proposed recommendations and rationale. A paragraph that provides the context and issues faced by the organization. Your assessment of the issue Your recommendations to address the issue – what should be done, by whom, when and what will result. A closing call to action. Sources: The case and associated required readings and course concepts. If you have additional outside insights great; I am not expecting new research to support this assignment. Evaluation: (1) understanding and analysis of the issues; (2) use of class concepts and personal insights; (3) persuasiveness of recommendations; and (4) clarity of writing. Length: 750 words or less not including exhibits Due: ed to me by 7:00 AM the day we will discuss the case in class.

3 1 on 1 Reengineering Assignment Guidelines
Objective: (1) See the world through an operations management lens to identify a problem and propose a solution; (2) apply the concepts and tools we have been exploring in the course; and (3) enhance your 1 on 1 oral presentation skills. Topic: Any operations management problem/irritant/snafu that you have observed and you have ideas on how to improve. Consider availability of information/data to clearly demonstrate the issue and support your proposal. Format: Fifteen minute oral discussion with me. I will not read any materials before or after the session. In your time you need to articulate the issue, your analysis and your proposal. You may use visual aids. During the 15 minutes you can expect I will ask questions. After 15 minutes, I will share my evaluation of your work.

4 1 on 1 Reengineering Assignment Guidelines (con’t)
Structure: Context for the issue – why do you care Analysis and findings – what are is issues Recommendations – what do you propose Extensions – what are the insights that have broader applicability Grading Rubric: “Interesting issue; great solution; go do it!” (A) “I am with you; verify a few last assumption and let’s get it done” (A-) “I like they direction you are headed in; good work so far but I need some more information before I can give the go ahead” (B+) “I appreciate the effort; interesting work but I am still skeptical.” (B)

6 Client Project – Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Guidelines
Goals: Ensure the client and team are on the same page Clearly define deliverables, work plans and roles/responsibilities Establish communications and review protocol Agree on escalation process if things “go bump in the night” Potential Contents Project objectives – what will be accomplished Project scope – what is in and what is out Timing – final, intermediate check points Enumeration of the deliverables – level of detail, audience, formats Roles and responsibilities – client, team and joint Confidentiality – what is not, what is and if it is how is it treated Communications – to them, from them; format, response time Interviews/information/data – needs, availability, responsiveness Progress check-ins – when, who, how Escalation – if things are not going well, what to do A Living Document: Projects are like living organisms; they change and evolve over time. Periodically, revisit the MOU with the team and see if it should be revised. If so, do it with the client.
