2. What is a magnet?
A material is magnetic if it has the ability to exert forces on magnets or other magnetic materials.
Magnets have two opposite poles. (North and South)
A magnet cut in half would result in two magnets each with a N&S pole.

3. Magnetic Poles Opposite poles attract. Like poles repel.
N attracts S and vice versa.
Like poles repel.
N repels N, S repels S.

5. Electromagnets
An Electromagnet can be made by wrapping a piece of wire around a nail. (Iron core)
Like all magnets, this too will have a North and South pole.
Unlike permanent magnets, these can be turned on or off.

7. Right-Hand Rule
The N&S poles of an electromagnet can be determined using the Right-Hand rule.
If you hold an electromagnetic coil in your right-hand with your fingers wrapped in the same direction as the current is flowing, your thumb will be pointing towards the North Pole.

9. Electromagnets To make an electromagnet stronger you can:
Increase the number of coils in the wire.
Increase the amount of iron in the core.
Increase the current of the battery.

10. Making Permanent Magnets
There are at least three ways to make a permanent magnet (magnetize) out of an Iron Bar.
Touching the bar to a powerful magnet.
Placing it in a strong magnetic field.
Placing it near a strong electromagnet.
