13 Potential uses of Universal Life
Meet Jean Jean is a 45-year old school principal and mother of three young children. She knows she needs life insurance for her family’s financial security for the next 20 years, but she also likes the idea of saving for the future for college or retirement. Jean has decided she needs $250,000 in life insurance. If she makes the annual premium payments of $3,582, she could see considerable growth in her account value in over 20 years.

14 Jean’s Account Value Assuming all payments are made when due and no withdrawals/loans are taken, and the non-guaranteed interest rate remains the same for 20 years, Jean would have an account value of $92,224. In the 21st year, if Jean decides to withdraw $50,000, it would leave $42,895 in the account value, and if she also stopped paying future premiums, the life insurance protection would stay in force for the next 19* years before lapsing assuming the current non-guaranteed rate of 4.7% remained level. *At the guaranteed rate of 3%, the protection would stay in force for all 13 years.
