Your submission Gender based violence remains afundamental threat to the attainment of gender equality in the SADC region and Most of the times when we talk about domestic violence the first thing that come in peopl’es mind is beating. But at fm 101 power through Mlatho have discovered that some men locks up their wives in doors when ever there are disagreeemnts in the house. This story is about a Chirimba based man by the name of Mr Matabwa who always locks up his wife as a punishment. His house is not aself contained and when ever he locks up the wife it means she will not have a bath nor will she visit the toilet. Now come to think of a woman who is in her menstrual period and she is denied access to go to the bathroom or the toilet. Mr Matabwa also told us that he does not regret treating his wife that way. Then I asked him if he has children with the wife and he told me that he has four children of which the youngest is four years old. On what happens to the children if the mother is indoors Matabwa said when one of the children found her or himself inside the house he is locked up together with the mother.this means the child is absent for school and those outside will have to help themselves on what they are going to eat for that day. Now how will the future of thes children be? If they are on and off for school just because the father locked them up together with the mother and for the mother does she have any chance to do business or to go to work? and even at the work place is her job secured since her productivity will go down due to the domestic violence that she faces at home GENDER EQUALITY BY 2015, YES WE MUST!

Background BRIEF BACKGROUND: WHY DID YOU PRODUCE THE STORY? WHAT PROBLEM OR CONTEXT IS IT RESPONDING TO? * As you are all aware that malawi has a domestic violence prevention act,and that the law commision is in the process working on the bill, I produced the story to make it known to people as well as government and organisations that there is a certain kind of gender based violence that need to be eradicated. It is a painful and risky punishment in a sense that one day the woman may think of hanging up her self in the house GENDER EQUALITY BY 2015, YES WE MUST!
