1 Western Europe Region Report Tracey Dancy
Good morning everyone – I am pleased to join with Jerry and Randy et al in welcoming you to Stavanger for the 2008 Western European Regional meeting. Thank you again to NPD for hosting this event for us.

2 My Role Marketing Increase Awareness and Deployment
IS Strategy E&P Strategy NDR assessment and development Increase Awareness and Deployment Increase Membership NDR9 programme and promotion Marketing / Industry Knowledge NDR assessment and development Increase Awareness and Deployment Increase Membership NDR9 programme and promotion As Jerry has said, I am the Regional Lead for the Western Europe region. My role with Energistics is a voluntary one – I am the Marketing Executive for Paras Ltd, a management consultancy based in London, and we in turn work solely in the E&P arena, advising on business strategy in IS and exploration. As such, I am able to bring my skills in marketing together with my rapidly increasing knowledge of the people and companies in the industry to help with co-ordinating the work of Energistics in Western Europe. As the Lead, my role is simple – to help increase awareness and deployment of the industry standards that Energistics and their member partners have developed, and to increase membership numbers. Without contributing members, further development of these vital standards “is not possible “– a phrase we heard only too often in Rome last week, but in this particular case is very relevant.

3 Events across the Region
Intelligent Energy NDR8 PNEC EAGE SMi IQPC In order to achieve that increased awareness, I , together with the corporate backing and skills that Paras have, support the work of Energistics at exhibitions and conferences, helping on the booth and talking to anyone who is interested – and occasionally to those who didn’t think they were interested at all! Usually I pass interested parties over to Jerry to explain the more intricate details.  Some of the events we have covered in Europe in the last year or so have included the EAGE in Rome, Intelligent Energy in Amsterdam, and SMi in London – though I have also aided and abetted at conferences outside of my region, in particular the NDR8 conference in Cape Town earlier this year.

4 National Data Repositories
NDR8 – Cape Town NDR9 - ? You have heard today of the role that Energistics will play in arranging NDR conferences in future , and I will be part of the committee working on future conferences, in particular working with representatives from Schlumberger and Landmark on managing the programme and promotional areas. Paras has been intimately involved in developing a number of National Data Repositories or Banks since helping to set up CDA in the UK, including projects in Colombia and Peru, Part of my role at NDR8 in Cape Town involved writing the Post Show report, available on the PetroleumAgencySA website, and that was also published in the Digital Energy Journal, June/July 2008 edition, also available for download from the DEJ site.

As you can see from this map of Western Europe, back in 1991 Energistics – or POSC as it was known as at the time – was thin on members outside of the US. OilIT

This number is continuing to increase, not only with oil companies, but also key vendors and service companies wanting to be involved – this is great news for the industry in general, as these vendors are of course using the standards in their ongoing software developments.
