2 Assignment Books & Homework
HW each night, if excessive please let us know Planners are filled out together Please initial assignment books each evening until further notice We work with the students on time management skills, please reinforce at home Check out the website also, HW will be listed there as well

3 Binders and Organization
Binders move between the classrooms Folder for Math, ELA, and Sci/SS Take Home folder, Leave at Home, Bring Back We encourage neatness and organization!

4 Homework Policy Class Cash will be given for completed HW daily.
There are times when HW will be graded. If a student is consistently missing HW, a note will be in the planner. Absent Students – same number of days to make up the homework as he/she is absent Family Vacations

5 Desks and Lockers No personal items kept in desks
Lockers do not lock; they are used for extra materials they may need during the day

6 Class Cash Reward system
Class Cash can be earned for positive behaviors or actions Coupons can be purchased every Friday.

7 Math Practice multiplication facts Homework nightly
Usually pre-test and post- test to show learning Enrichment activities and real world math problems will be integrated Large group, small group and independent work

8 ELA (English, Language Arts) with Mrs. Holloway
More independent phase of reading and understanding Metacognitive reading strategies (thinking about our own thinking) Comprehension skill Independent Reader’s Response Journals (individual novels at own level and pace) New reading series, Benchmark Literacy Writing pieces in ELA and science and social studies Weekly Greek and Latin roots (spelling, vocabulary, writing) “Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty.  It should be offered to them as a precious gift.” —Kate DiCamillo

9 Science with Mr. Parenti
Environments 4 required experiments and 4 group-created experiments Almost strictly hands-on and group work No Tests or quizzes Grades for each experiment consist of: - Daily Journal &/or Exit Ticket - Power Conclusion - Summary of experiment - Written Response – Application of skills acquired during experiment Space Will involve homework and test/quizzes. One major project used to tie into different instructional concepts * “Amateur Astronomers Discover New Solar System” * Most project work should be completed in class Health Body systems * Review of systems covered in previous grades * Focus on nervous, endocrine, and urinary systems Short quizzes on each system Possible project on system of choice

10 Social Studies with Mr. Parenti
Mapping review Native Americans North American exploration Colonization The Revolutionary War Early US Government. Various map skills will be sprinkled in as we go through the year. In addition, we will be discussing current events. Children will be responsible for reading/researching various topics (World News/ Local News / Sports / Entertainment /Etc.) Discussions and topics will be grade-level appropriate. Grades Exit Question based on the focus of the lesson. Homework completion/accuracy Projects/Tests – Some units may involve a project, others may involve a test in lieu of a project.
