Physical Development Use a range of tools and equipment with increasing control, including jugs to pour, dough tools and mark making tools, appropriate scissors and threading activities. Beginning to draw circles and lines, beginning to use a 3 fingered grip when using mark making tools. Turn pages to look at books, and handle books with care. Run and stop safely. Develop confidence on Nursery play climbing equipment. Begin to put on own coat and help with clothing. Personal, Social and Emotional Development Leaving carer and settling into Nursery. Developing relationship with key person, and with this support, exploring the Nursery environment and becoming familiar with Nursery expectations and routines. Beginning to respond to the feelings and wishes of others, focusing on positive behaviour, turn taking and caring for others and for the Nursery environment. Begin to manage feelings and behaviour with support, stopping them from doing something they should not do. Expressive Arts and Design Join in singing favourite songs. Create sounds by banging, shaking, tapping/blowing, indoors and out. Explore the way that different musical instruments sound. Experiment with colours, blocks and mark making, including painting in a variety of ways, rubbings, cutting and sticking, stamping and printing, chalking and mixing. Experience a range of construction materials. Make believe by pretending in role play, small world and throughout play opportunities. Literacy Share stories, rhymes and songs, beginning to establish some favourites. Join in with words & phrases from familiar stories, songs and rhymes. Talking about and handling books, holding them the right way up. Mark making in a wide range of contexts and media. Encourage children to begin to talk about marks they have made.

All children will be moved along the learning curve at their own rate and level through play and activities linked to their interests.
