2 Weather and Climate - Again
It might be fair to say they have ALL weather patterns – rain, snow, heat, cold, disaster weather (monsoons). Factually, it is difficult to make generalizations b/c of the varied terrain & vastness of the land mass.

3 Weather and Climate Suffice it to say that because of fresh water, a VERY rich civilization was able to flourish in this area. So, they had water, food & shelter. This is STILL a land of proud people with a rich tradition.

4 Mountains Why mountains? Mountains were important because:
The subcontinent land pushed against Asia  the Himalayas Mountains were important because: Separated India from China Was a source of major rivers Protected India from invasion Provided water, hunting, timber, minerals, and semi-precious stones

5 Rivers There were two rivers of great significance: Indus River
Ganges River (below)

6 Rivers, continued Rivers were important to the development of two cities: Harappa (50,000) Mohenjo-daro (30,000) Why were rivers so helpful? Flooding, silt, crops Trade routes

These two cities were located in what was called the Indus River Valley ( BCE) Key Features Walled cities and gateways Paved streets Brick houses Baths and sewers Markets
