1 Walk-In Take out notebook, pencil box and folder. SILENCE WHEN THE BELL GOES! Get your first LIVESCHOOL points! Copy the question and answer in sentences: What similarities in geography do you find between the Indus Valley and Sumer? What differences exist?

2 Answer Both civilizations had rivers, like the Indus River in India, and the Tigris-Euphrates Rivers in Mesopotamia. The Indus River had mountains to the north, but Mesopotamia was mostly a flat, semiarid area.

3 Semiarid Semiarid describes a place, like “Sumer had a SEMIARID CLIMATE”. Semiarid is NOT a thing. We can’t say, “Sumer had a semiarid, so it needed water from the rivers.” What could we say instead?

4 LIVESCHOOL Student grid, can see number of points earned.
Teachers can add points to everyone at once, or take points off for students not doing what they should (example, walk-in). Letter for family with access code.

5 Geography Geography refers to features of the land (like rivers, mountains, plains, forests, etc.) and how humans interact with these features.

6 Geography of Indus Valley
The Indus River provided water. The Hindu Kush mountains and the Himalaya mountains kept out invaders, and blocked cold winds, but also made travel out more difficult. The Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean helped people travel and trade.

7 Monsoon A monsoon is a SEASONAL WIND.
Dry winds in winter create a dry climate. In summer, winds pick up moisture from the oceans, so they create a rainy season. This helps crops to grow, but can also cause flooding. Phoenix is the only other place in the world other than India to have a monsoon! 

8 Harappan Civilization

9 Two Civilizations On The Indus River
Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa were the two civilizations that started, around 2500 BC.

10 Reading for Information
Read pages of textbook. Answer the question on your small sheet of paper in COMPLETE SENTENCES!

11 Harappan Civilization
Harappan Civilizations formed in the Indus River Valley, before 2000 BC. They featured carefully planned cities with streets laid out neatly in a grid pattern. Their language, art, use of metals and developments in math showed they were a highly evolved civilization.
