Telecom Umbrella is a solution to streamline quality business processes it is e collection of suite of systems or products. The slack contains network at the south side and customer at the north side. There is an IT slack in between these two it applications are categorized based on their inclination towards customer, business, or network. Telecom stack has three layers namely BSS, OSS, and NMS.

13 What is BSS? Business Support Systems (BSS) facilitate the relationship of service providers with their customers. They are the components that a telecom industry uses to run its business operations towards customer. BSS can be thought of as customer-facing systems or north bound systems. These systems are typically the revenue impacting systems. BSS NMS Network Telecom Stack OSS

14 What is OSS? Operations Support Systems (OSS) facilitate the operations of the communications carriers network. OSS can be thought of as network-lacing systems or south bound systems. These are the systems which are more inclined towards the network or services. OSS layer can be further decomposed into two parts: Service Fulfillment Service Assurance BSS NMS Network Telecom Stack OSS

15 What is NMS? A Network Management System (NMS) is a combination of hardware and software, used to monitor and administer a computer network or networks. Generally, Service Fulfillment applications are part of OSS and Service Assurance applications are part of NMS. There is a very thin line between OSS and NMS. Most of the time both these layers are clubbed together and are called as OSS. These systems are also called as Service Assurance systems.
