Our novel for Q2 = TKAM It is considered a classic example of the bildungsroman genre = a “coming of age” story (although the main character is female, which is atypical of the initial book type)

At the Library . . . Check out a copy of our CLASS READING BOOK: To Kill a Mockingbird * Some of you have read TKAM. You have the option of checking out the second, recently published book by Harper Lee: Go Set a Watchman. You will still do class activities w/ us, so you will still need a copy of TKAM. BUUUUTTTT . . .your reading time will be more productive and less redundant. * We have 2 copies of Go Set a Watchman as well as an ebook copy on OverDrive Check out a book for your Q2 self-selected reading. This should be a “substantial” book (200+ pages). Fiction or non-fiction is okay, but you will need to be able to discuss elements of character, plot, setting, etc., development. Textbooks, trade books, how-to manuals and other stuff is probably not okay. The project for Q2, due at end of the quarter in mid- January, will be assigned soon.

Mean people stink (sorry, not sorry – it’s true) The CECE peer review process is supposed to help show you the good, the bad, and the ugly of your peers’ writing . . . . . .it is not meant to give you, or anyone else, the opportunity to belittle or befuddle people. You can be critical of a person’s writing without attacking their character, their value as a person, or their wonderful creative capacity.

Heading to the library . . . Expectations:
You are still in my class. All rules apply. No cell phone use in the library (unless your book is on it). Select book(s). When you have a book, go to the north corner of the library (by the computer lab, where the exercise bikes used to be – now there are some stools and tables there). READ until the end of class. It is a privilege and joy to read in the library, surrounded by all of those beautiful books and possibilities!!!
