4 Community Profile Vernon was first settled in 1716 and was incorporated as a town in Founded at the start of the Industrial Revolution, the town developed into a major center for the manufacture of textiles. Vernon is a suburban community rich in historical and cultural tradition. The town is 15 miles to the northeast of Hartford and is equidistant between New York and Boston. Today the Rockville section of Vernon enjoys the unique status of being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Although many of the mills are gone, the area remains an active urban center. Once known as rural Vernon, it is now best described as a suburb of Hartford and part of the Tri-Town area of Vernon, Ellington, and Tolland. Although rural areas still exist, Vernon today has a population of over 30,000 residents living in over 13,000 housing units.

5 The Position The Principal of Rockville High School is responsible for the initiation, operation, supervision, coordination and evaluation of school-based programs and the services designed to meet the educational needs of students in the school. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the assessment of student achievement, student discipline, the supervision and evaluation of teachers, the preparation and administration of the annual school budget and the day-to-day operations of the school.

6 Qualifications Connecticut State Department of Education administrative certification 092 At least five years teaching experience at the secondary level Administrative experience preferred The ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents and the community Knowledge of curriculum and instruction at the secondary level Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills A demonstrated ability to make sound educational decisions Other attributes and skills as deemed appropriate and necessary

Mrs. Deborah Murasso, Assistant Superintendent of Schools Mrs. Patricia Buell, Director of Pupil Personnel Services Mr. Michael J. Purcaro, Director of Business and Finance Vernon Public Schools educates its student population of 3,440 in grades PK-12 which includes five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Policy is governed by the Vernon Board of Education, a nine-member elected body. The High School Principal reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools. The operating budget for the school year is $48,180,997.

Compensation Package The salary range for the school year is $119,399 to $137,039 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
