Becoming a senior means you are ¾ of the way to a high school diploma You still have work to do… Maintain a schedule including rigorous courses Keep up your grades! Stay involved in activities APPLY EARLY to colleges TJ’s deadline is Nov. 28th

We will be sending all application materials electronically via Naviance You will be: Completing surveys Signing up for College Visits Searching for colleges (check admission requirements before applying) Searching for scholarships Requesting teacher letters of recommendation Matching to your common application (if applicable)

5 College application Process
After completing an application, see Ms. Maez for your college application checklist!! Students will be responsible for logging into Naviance and adding colleges to your list After adding a college, you need to make a transcript request so we can send them off Do not wait until the last possible day to send out your application, the earlier the better!!

6 How do I log on to Naviance?
Go To: Or go to then click on “Naviance” under the Parents & Students tab To Login: It will ask for an address, instead put your DPS ID in as the address and the password is your six-digit date of birth (mm-dd-yy) If you get locked out, please see your counselor and they can reset your password

7 First steps in naviance… adding colleges
Click on the “colleges” tab Under “my colleges” click on “colleges I’m applying to” Click “add college to this list” Check “Trascript Request” box Look up the college and add Check “I have submitted my application” box Click “add colleges” link at the bottom

8 First steps… requesting teacher letters
Click on the “colleges” tab Under “my colleges” click on the “letters of recommendation” link Click the “Add Request” button Select the teachers name in the dropdown Choose if you want the letter sent to all colleges or a specific college (use “all colleges” as default) Write the teacher a quick informational note or thank you Click the “Submit Request” button Note: All teachers should have been asked in person and given the form before you send this request

9 Common Application - FYI
Using the Common Application involves many extra steps. Give your counselors AT LEAST ONE WEEK ahead of time to ensure your application gets sent on time. Common Application requires additional teacher recommendation forms. Make sure to remind your teachers. Before counselors can send ANY of your documents to colleges, you must match your Common Application account in Naviance. You will need to complete this application if you are applying to University of Colorado, Boulder!

10 Why should I apply so early?
You beat the rush by applying before the deadline. Applying early means you potentially have more options. It also means you have more time to work on financial aid & scholarships. You can apply for FAFSA starting Oct 1st this year

11 Things to remember… College Fairs
In-state College TJ (earlier today) Out-of-State College Fairs @ Lakewood HS – September 29th @ Mountain Vista HS – October 1st * Attend the fairs so you can meet representatives and obtain information on admission requirements * For a complete list of college fairs and times see the handout in your folder
