4 Who we are GNTP the Big Wheel
Strategic advisory body which represents councils, businesses and organisations throughout Greater Nottingham Draw partners together to help facilitate strategy, funding and delivery across the partnership area the Big Wheel Promotes the integrated transport vision supported by Nottingham and Nottinghamshire County Councils Helps to change behaviour of people travelling around Greater Nottingham Uses the Big Wheel brand to inform and influence Engages with the business community in order to promote the Smarter Choices agenda

5 Need to develop consensus via Partnerships
Why GNTP? Transport high on national & local agenda Government funding levels increased dramatically - but bleak in future? Transportation has a major influence on economic & social development and the environment Major developments - significant transport implications Local Authorities have only limited implementation powers Proposals for a local workplace parking levy Secure the resources and the means to deliver Need to develop consensus via Partnerships

Local Authorities and Business Community Business, voluntary & public sector; wider forum Representation from local authorities, transport operators, funders Chair selected from the Business Community Guided by the LTP Transport Vision and Strategy Not single issue focussed but Consensus building Strong advisory role Meets every 2 months with Forum every 6 months Not just revolutionary but evolutionary Formal roles and funding through the Sub Regional Economic Partnership, Local Strategic Partnership

traffic growth contained to less than 1% growth over the last five years Tram/Bus/park and ride use up Good performance on road safety & major schemes Helped access additional funds – LTP, emda/GNP, Cycling England/Sustrans Good rapport among members of partnership Openness ,respect and trust Understand each others objectives and constraints Helped the City and County Councils Greater Nottingham is a Centre of Excellence for Local Transport Delivery Beacon Authorities for Improving Accessibility City won ‘Transport Local Authority of the Year Award’ County Council were Beacon for Access and Mobility Lobbying is working e.g. Rail authorities BigWheel is well established & recognised by public & funders
