6 Bell Ringer 11-12 What was the Proclamation of 1763? Take out your homework. I will check it in for completion and then we will go over.

12 2. Stamp Act Crisis 1766 a.Colonists protest against the tax b. Being taxed by Parliament and not local governments

13 Stamp Act Crisis 1766 c.“ No taxation without representation” i. What does that mean? d. Boycott British goods

14 2. Stamp Act Crisis 1766 e. Forced British to repeal the Stamp Act (But…they said they could still tax the colonists…so wasn’t really resolved).

15 3. Townshend Duties (Act, 1767)
a. Parliament placed import duty on goods being shipped to colonies i. Glass, lead, paint, paper, tea, etc.

16 Townshend Duties b. Colonists didn’t like this- just another way to tax them so… c. Colonists object to all taxes and stop buying British goods (boycott)

17 4. Boston Massacre a. British troops sent to Boston to ‘restore’ order i. Really, just created tension- boils over into a fight

18 Boston Massacre b. 5 Rioters were killed including Crispus Attucks (an African American slave) i. First Revolutionary War death?

19 Boston Massacre c. Colonists rush to protest d. Britain withdraws troops, and “order is restored” (for now)
