2. ESS - How to Obtain and/or Change your User ID and Password
The Employee Self Service (ESS) website is
Employees may encounter occasional messages when they are attempting to log into ESS during open enrollment and performance review time.
The current volume of use is causing occasional delays due to so many employees using the system at the same time.
In order for the ESS features to work as intended, it is important that employees setup their security questions when registering.
Managers need to choose EMPLOYEE to bring up the Recommended Links such as Benefit Self Service(BSS), Talent Management, FS Internet and FS Position/Description.

You will be locked out of the system after 3 failed Login attempts. Please use the process described below if you have not been able to Login after 2 attempts.

Follow the 4 Step process in order to have your User Id sent to you. You will need to use the address that you registered with, otherwise ESS may not recognize you.

After you have completed these steps, you may choose to Login directly from this final screen. If you don’t know your password, you are able to select “ I also forgot my password” and you will be directed to the appropriate section for help.

This process will RESET your password
Follow the 5 Step process for resetting your password to have your password sent to you.

If you encounter a screen like the one below, make sure your Security Profile is updated.

On the main Login screen you are given an option to Update My Security Profile.

11. ESS - How to Obtain and/or Change your User ID and Password - Update My Security Profile
Follow the instructions for answering the security questions. After you SAVE the answers, you may be prompted to Activate your /Mobile. You may have to go back to the main Login screen and select Update My Security Profile for this option to appear.
It is important this screen be completed so the system can send information to you if you forget your User Id, Password, etc. You will be sent an Activation code and asked to submit that code in order to confirm.

The Activation Code is valid for 10 minutes.

When you select the option to Change Your Password, you will be asked to Login. You will then be directed to the page where you can change your password.
Your password must meet the requirements listed.

Managers – please note when you are logging into ESS, the screen will always default to Manager. You will need to choose EMPLOYEE in the top left corner to see your own profile.
Please remember temporary passwords are valid for 24 hours ONLY and activation codes are valid for 10 minutes ONLY.
Please note that ESS passwords are only reset between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm ET, Monday – Friday. Employees will receive the “automated message ….. of 3-4 days.” However, during the week, the passwords are usually reset within 24 hours of receipt by FS.
