4. Changing public attitudes
Save the Children has achieved changing attitudes when providing:
research evidence of the negative consequences and misconceptions of physical punishment
logical counter-arguments to cultural and religious justifications for practicing physical punishment

5. Changing public attitudes - Clear advocacy messages/sensitisation campaigns
Save the Children’s advocacy messages targeted at changing public attitudes:
Showing the harmful effects on physical punishment
National campaigns challenging (and changing) public attitudes to violence against children

6. Public attitudes - Strategic alliances for public education
Save the Children partnerships for public education campaigns have included:
Public, high level officials and well-known celebrities (Romania, Peru and Brazil)
Alliances with Ombudsmen (Costa Rica and Peru)
Alliances with National Child Rights Networks (Philippines, Mongolia, Gambia and Brazil)
Strategic relations with key government bodies (Ministry of Health, Costa Rica and Dep. for Social Welfare and Development/Dep. for Education, the Philippines)

7. Public attitudes - Resource development, production and dissemination
Successful public awareness campaigns were due to:
The use of media to challenge public attitudes in many contexts
Staff and partner capacity building to provide skills and techniques to challenge and influence public attitudes around physical punishment
Children active particapants in campaigning and public awareness raising

8. Behaviour Change/Service Delivery - Positive Discipline
Positive Discipline is an approach to parenting which aims to reduce the physical punishment of children.
Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting is a child-rights based parent training programme, developed in 2005 by Professor Joan Durrant (University of Manitoba, Canada) and Save the Children Sweden.
Positive Discipline itself is targeting parents and not children, but the right to be heard is present throughout the entire programme.
