Mariela Trautwein Spanish Teacher Lives in Cheyenne, Wyoming Graduated from Adams State University I have experience in a preschool, first grade, and third grade classroom. Likes to play with my two dogs, spend time with family and friends, likes to learn new things Kellen Groshart English Teacher Born and raised here in Laramie. Graduated from University of Wyoming This will be my 12th year teaching kindergarten at IPES. I’m excited for a new adventure with the DLI program! I love to spend time with my family. I have a 7 year old daughter and a 3 year old son. We love to go swimming, camping and to our family cabin.

Enrollment in dual language immersion is open to all students of all backgrounds and all ability levels Bilingual and Bi-literacy Proficiency in all academic areas Acquiring a second language in content areas

8 First Week Combined classes
First two days of school all children in the Dual Language Immersion will be in Mrs. Groshart’s room. Split classes for short periods of time throughout the day Transition students into Dual Language Immersion Practice routines and procedures in both languages

9 Utah Program Requirements
Spanish teacher will ONLY speak Spanish Teacher will not speak English to other adults if a child is present in a school environment. This will encourage the child to speak Spanish. Notes can be written in English. Teacher will teach the lessons as a whole group to support students’ understanding. Teacher will be using several visuals and gestures to help students comprehend. Teacher will give students positive feedback and rewards to encourage speaking Spanish as much as possible. Students will work together as a class, groups, or pairs. No Spanish homework will be given. Spanish teacher and English teacher will collaborate weekly.

10 Spanish Acquisition Students may be shy to speak at first.
Your child will be encouraged through positive feedback. Students may hesitate to speak Spanish when asked to speak at home. Students will be encouraged to speak only Spanish in the Spanish classroom The students’ goal is to speak Spanish in fluent conversation in Spanish by mid-year of first grade. Conference will be held partly in Spanish in order for you to see your child speak Spanish with the Spanish teacher.

11 Conferences: Report Cards Conference will be held with both teachers.
Your child will be involved for part of the conference. Report Cards A report will be sent home. Math grade will be given by Spanish teacher. Other grades will be given by English teacher A separate report card will be sent home for Spanish language arts.
