2 Meet your captains Mrs. Volpe Mrs. Lopez
I graduated from The University of Miami with a Bachelors of Arts. Majored in Education. I am ESE and ESOL Certified I graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education. ESOL Endorsed We are very excited to be teaching at Mater Academy Elementary and love our students!

3 Uniform Uniform shirts must be tucked in at all times. Wear a belt.
Mater Sweaters or Jackets. (Hunter Green) Uniform is worn everyday, unless otherwise stated on the school calendar. Fridays are JEANS DAY for a $1.00. (NO DOLLAR, NO JEANS) You may also wear your Mater T-shirt on Fridays. Field trip: Jeans and NEW Friday t-shirt.

4 3rd Grade Goals To give our students a fun, safe, and enriching educational experience. To have our students aspire to become the best readers they can be. To have entering 2nd graders transform into third graders, and leave as 4th grade ready students.

7 Classroom Rules Follow directions quickly and quietly!
1 finger for bathroom; 2 fingers for water.  Raise your hand for permission to speak!  Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat! . Make smart choices! Keep your dear teacher happy!

8 What happens if I BREAK the rules?
1st time - You will get a warning. Class Dojo points will be deducted from your totals. Students will receive a Parent Note if they end the week with negative Dojo points. 3 notes home will result in a detention. 3 detentions will result in a referral. **Continuous misbehavior may result in not participating in school activities. (field trips, parties, etc.)

9 Bulldog Bucks Positive behaviors are being rewarded school wide!
Students have the opportunity to use their Bulldog Bucks to purchase special events through out the school year. Wacky/Tacky Day, Dress Down Day, Ice Cream Cone, Cookie Decorating Party, Pizza Party, Water Day

10 Attendance is very important!
Attendance policy Attendance is very important! The following are the acceptable excused absences: Student illness Medical appointments Please send a note in with your child within 3 days of the absence indicating the reason for the absence. If you would like to pick up the work your child is missing, please us early in the day and We will have it ready by the end of the day. Death in the family Religious holidays

11 Tardies Morning work begins at 8:00am Instruction begins at 8:35am
After 8:30am is considered Tardy. 10 tardies will result in a referral All tardies are unexcused.

Done at school Help with classroom parties Help on field trips MAPA classroom parent Donations for Hours On our webpage you will find a list of items that qualify for hours. Note: Hours for Donations will only be given with proof of receipt. If no receipt is presented the items will be considered a donation out of your generosity  Home Please assist with home learning Take home projects Review spelling words Review definitions of vocabulary words Practice math times tables Look over PB pages to better understand material that is being covered in class Parent Involvement

14 Homework Procedures Homework will be given every weekday.  Students will be responsible for copying homework into the agenda every morning.  They are responsible for their homework and materials.  Missing homework needs to be completed the next day. Students with incomplete HW will have Dojo points deducted from their totals. For every 3 incomplete homework will result in a parent note and a detention. Students completing homework on a daily bases will be part of the Homework Party Club. Once they miss 1 homework they will no longer be able to be part of the Party Club. Name and Date on every Homework paper. (notebook or worksheet)

15 Absent Procedures Students that are absent are responsible for making up any missed assignment. There will be a bin labeled “Make up Work” with folders that will contain the work the students missed. Make up work will be due the next day.

16 Home Learning: technology
Homework Technology I- Ready 45 minutes of Reading 45 minutes of Math (Total of 90 minutes for both) Monday- Sunday Every Monday a report will be ran and students will receive a completion grade. An average of grades will be given twice a quarter (Progress Reports and Report Cards.) Reflex Math 

17 *Late assignments will not be accepted.*
How will I be graded? 90%-100% = A = Outstanding Progress 80%-89% = B = Above Average Progress 70%-79% = C = Average Progress 60%-69% = D = Minimal Progress 0%-59% = F = Failure 0% = Z = Assignment was not turned in X = Assignment was excused *Late assignments will not be accepted.*

18 Academic Dishonesty Cheating will not be tolerated on any assignment that is completed whether it be classwork, homework, assessments, or projects. Any student caught cheating will receive an automatic F on the assignment, a Notice of Misconduct, and loss of privilege.

19 Scholastic Book Club Great way to acquire inexpensive reading books for your child! Help support the classroom library and assure students have a good variety of reading materials for their reading logs and other reading assignment.

20 FSA Information This year the students will be taking a reading paper based state assessment and a math computer based assessment.
