2 Basics Bill of Rights 11 – 27 1st ten amendments of the constitution

3 Amendments Added to the Constitution???
They must be ratified by 3/4ths of the states. That is 38 of the 50 states must approve

4 1st Amendment What it does….5 freedoms Freedom of Religion, Speech,
Press, Petition & Assembly Additional Info: No Slander or Libel No Human Sacrifice

5 2nd Amendment Right to bear arms.

6 3rd Amendment Citizens are not required to quarter soldiers.

7 4th Amendment What it does Additional Info
No unreasonable search and seizures. Additional Info Requires the use of search warrants

8 5th Amendment Additional Info What it does
Due Process / Rights of the accused Additional Info A. No double jeopardy Cannot be tried for the same crime twice B. Right to remain silent You do not have to incriminate yourself C. Eminent domain Government can take property, but must pay.

9 6th Amendment What it does Additional Info Rights of the accused

10 7th Amendment What it does Right to a jury trial in civil cases

11 8th Amendment What it does No cruel and unusual punishment
Right to the consideration of bail

12 9th Amendment What it does
The Bill of Rights does not deny other rights already enumerated to the people.

13 10th Amendment What it does
Limits the federal government only to powers written in the Constitution. All other rights go to the states

14 13th Amendment What it does Abolished (ended) slavery

15 15th Amendment What it does
Cannot deny the right to vote (suffrage) on race, color or previous condition of servitude.

16 18th and 21st What it does 18th 21st
Started prohibition (alcohol illegal) 21st Reversed the 18th. Alcohol legal again.

17 19th Amendment Women the right to vote.

18 22nd Amendment Limits a president to 2 terms
