2 Slash-and-Burn Examples- Method of clearing space for a field by cutting and burning trees, grasses, and brush. Effects- The soil is exhausted of its nutrients, and farmers soon have to move on to a new area of land.

3 Terraced Farming Examples- The cutting of step-like horizontal fields into hillsides and slopes. Effects- Reduces soil erosion and makes hill slopes into farm area.

4 Push Factors Examples- Factors that push people to leave rural areas. Such as poor medication, poor education, low paying jobs, ownership of land by a few rich people Effects- Rapidly growing cities.

5 Rapidly Growing Cities
Examples- Mexico City, Sao Paolo, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Lima, Bogota, and Santiago. Effects- Slums, unemployment, crime, high levels of air pollution.

6 Advantages of Tourism Creates businesses and jobs.
Brings money into the economy. Can help reduce income gap.

7 Disadvantages of Tourism
May result in traffic congestion and pollution. Produces resentment among the locals towards the Tourists Local governments can build up huge debts creating the infrastructure (Roads, trains, Public transportation) needed for tourism
