2 March 1st: Elizabeth Cady Stanton Nov 12, 1815- Oct 26, 1902
An early leader of the woman's rights movement. Organized the Seneca Falls Convention 1848. President of the National Woman Suffrage Association for 20 years.

3 March 2nd: Sally Ride May 26, 1951-July 23, 2012
first American woman astronaut in space (Challenger) Director of the California Space Institute at the University of California, San Diego. Inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame and the Astronaut Hall of Fame.

4 March 3rd : Alexis Herman* b. July 16, 1947
1st African American Secretary of Labor Youngest director of the Women’s Bureau of the Labor Department 1st African American woman to serve as an Assistant to the president as the Director of the White House Office of Public Liaison.

5 March 6th: Frances Perkins April 10, 1882-May 14, 1965
First woman to serve in the US presidential cabinet (Secretary of Labor). Helped President FDR with the New Deal and the creation of Social Security.

6 March 7th: Jeannette Pickering Rankin June 11, 1880-May 18, 1973
First woman to serve in the US Congress. Helped pass the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote. Committed pacifist and women’s rights activist.

7 March 8th: Shirley Chisholm Nov 30, 1924-Jan 1, 2005
First African American Congresswoman. First African American woman to make a bid for the US Presidency (1972).

8 March 9th: Kate Mullany* 1845-1906
Organized the first all-female labor union in 1864 First woman to become an officer of a national union in 1868 Inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Labor’s International Hall of Fame in 2016.

9 March 10th : Andra Rush* 1960 Leader of the largest woman-owned business enterprise in Michigan, and one of the largest Native American-owned companies in the U.S. Member of the U.S. Manufacturing Council Inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame

10 March 13th: Addie L. Wyatt* 1924-2012
First African American woman elected to office in Local 56 of UPWA Worked with MLK on civil rights marches. 1960s- appointed to the US Commission on the Status of Women Founding member of NOW who worked for passage of the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) TIME Magazine named her one of the “12 Women of the Year” in 1975.

Politician; author. The first female Prime Minister of Britain ( ). Nicknamed the "Iron Lady."

12 March 15th: Maggie Lena Walker* 1864-1934
First African American woman in the U.S. to charter a bank (St. Luke Penny Savings Bank) Board-member of the National Association of Colored Women and the Virginia Industrial School for Girls Local vice president of the NAACP and as a member of the Virginia Interracial Commission.

13 March 16th : Sonia Sotomayor June 25, 1954
Lawyer; judge First Latina Supreme Court Justice (2009).

14 March 17th : Norma Yaeger* 1930
First woman stockbroker to be permitted on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). 1999- Representative Loretta Sanchez (D, CA) presented her with the United States Congress Award.

15 March 20th : Nina Vaca* 1971 CEO and Chairman of Pinnacle Group, the Fastest Growing Women Owned/Led Company in the U.S. Her goal is to empower more women through her “At the Table” initiative. 2014- appointed as a Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship. Serves as Chair Emeritus of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

16 March 21st : Rebecca Anderson* 1940
Creator of HandMade in America, a non-profit organization that established a craft-focused economy model for 16 state heritage programs. Award of Merit for Sustainable Development from Renew America, Inc. 2000-named among U.S. News and World Report’s list of the US top 20 visionaries.

17 March 22nd: Gloria Steinem March 25, 1934
Activist, writer, lecturer Leading women’s rights since the late 1960s. Helped create both New York and Ms. Magazines Helped form the National Women's Political Caucus

18 March 23rd: Barbara Hackman Franklin* 1940
Former Secretary of Commerce Served five presidents Led efforts to increase the number of women in government Inducted into three business Halls of Fame.

19 March 24th: Geraldine Ferraro Aug 26, 1935-March 26, 2011
First female Vice Presidential candidate representing a major US political party. Ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Commission (1994). Co-hosted CNN’s Crossfire ( ).

20 March 27th: Sandra Day O’Connor March 26, 1930
First woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court (1981); she served 24 years. 2006- she launched iCivics. Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2009).

21 March 28th : Lilly Ledbetter* 1938
Women’s rights, civil rights, and equal pay activist  Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co- sued her employer for sexual discrimination 2009-President Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law (loosened the time restrictions on filing discrimination cases)

22 March 29th: Lucy Gonzalez Parsons* c. 1853-1942
Labor organizer and Socialist leader Founder of the Industrial Workers of the World Wrote for multiple radical publications

23 March 30th : Barbara “Dusty” Roads* 1928
1965- filed the first anti-discrimination complaint in the US with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against the airline industry’s 1977- helped form a new independent union, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA)

24 March 31st : Yvonne Walker * 1959
President, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1000 (California) Former marine 2008- became the first African American women president of SEIU Union Received awards for her efforts to support workers.
